USGBC-CA is invested in building our Mentorship Program. We have developed a mentor training program and mentor resource hub to provide support, guidance, and opportunities for green building and sustainability professionals open to mentoring students and emerging professionals in architecture, design, and other sustainability focused career paths.
When you become a mentor with USGBC-CA you will have access to free membership, online resources and guides, a zoom training with other members, a Mentor Program certificate, and an online collaboration space with other mentors. You will be paired up with 1-3 mentees and will have an opportunity to meet with your mentee(s) 1 to 2 hours per month in person, online or by phone. We will provide checklists for these meetings so you will have guidance on expectations and outcomes. Mentors usually commit 6 months to the program. That’s about 6 hours spread over 6 months.
Green Building Corp Mentorship Opportunities
GBC Mentors will be paired with members of the Green Building Corps. These members participate in a structured professional development and training program for 10-20 hours a week over a six month period. GBC Members are current students, recent graduates, and mid-career professionals, they come from a variety of backgrounds including architecture, engineering, landscape design, education, government, energy, ESG, and entertainment among others. Their goals are to learn about the green building sector, attend training and obtain certifications, and gain professional experience and networks through volunteering with USGBC-CA project teams and participating in our membership program. You can read more about the program and meet our current members here.
Event Mentorships
Attend an event such as the California Green Building Conference or a Women+ in Green Breakfast and sponsor a ticket for your mentee, introduce them to colleagues within your network, and spend time learning about their goals and challenges.
Emerging Professionals Mentorships and Speaking Opportunities
The Emerging Professionals Committee serves as a pipeline for emerging talent to grow into leadership positions within USGBC California and other organizations. Attend a meeting as a mentor to help answer questions about resumes, interviewing, networking, skill development and more.
